As the son of a wartime RAF fighter pilot from Newton-le-Willows, I have always had an interest in both aircraft of the period and the history of the towm. Would love to know if this Me109? was brought down in N-le-W and if so where?
Hi Bill, on this page is the history of this aircraft.
It was shot down over Kent and put on display around the north west of England, probably elsewhere too. 109s could not get as far as this part of the country – or rather, they could but wouldn’t be able to get back!
Dear Bill,
Was your Father known in later years for having a heart or lung transplant and running?
If so, I was friends with his sister Alice in her later years in Cornwall.
Regards,
Dean.
