What is the apparently huge Star of David at the centre of the picture.

      Hello Jean,

People often leave memorials at the crash site, flags, poppy crosses etc. Sometimes visitors arrange stones on the ground to form a cross or Star of David on the ground as a mark of respect and remembrance for the crew. They all get moved around in time as other visitors leave their own memorials.

However, the characters in the centre of this Star of David are puzzling – they could (but don’t appear) to relate to a particular crew member, or could represent Hebrew for RIP or ‘wish you long life’? I don’t know.
