Oh wow. You have done this sort of thing before and it wrks so well. Brilliant idea Ian. Brings all sorts of emotions. Sadness at the madness of the past, but relief that all that awfullness wasn’t wasted.

    Have a good Sunday.

Cheers Amy, one of the reasons for going to Berlin was to get some Then and Now photos.

The one I really wanted was of the Red Army soldier planting a Soviet flag on the roof of the Reichstag. Because I knew the exact spot and because tourists could access the roof, we went along to visit having been up there before… only to be told that since last year visits to the Reichstag had to be arranged online a few days in advance. I need to write a snotty review on Amazon for the Lonely Planet guide published earlier this year, that was one of many things the author hadn’t researched properly.

Oh well. Lots more to bore you with over the coming days. Have a good un yourself.

I had a go at doing this but it didn’t come out as good, I always think it must have been a hellish place to live. I have a friend whose Mum got out in time but nver forgot the horror of it all.

Brilliantly done Ian. I’m amazed how you’ve got them to match up like that. I’m ashamed to add that I’ve been running round that area in Call of Duty World at War and never realised it was the Brandenburg Gate. They’ve even got that truck in the map.

I read somewhere that the Red Army accounted for 80% of all Wehrmacht losses… But I have wondered that too about structural damage to Berlin.

  37. Mustang Koji says:
