I recall my Gran, who lived on Worsley Road North (just across from that location) about this as a child. So the tale goes, at least some of the crew bailed out of the plane and local women ran out to grab the parachutes as silk was in short supply during the war. It seems that the following day, officials went round knocking on doors to try to get the parachute silk but by that time the material had been cut up and distributed. I’ve looked on the internet for years but never managed to find any reference to this hence my asking if you know anything about this particular crash?
My wife believes she can locate a site near Uxbridge, Middlesex, where a german aircraft crashed and buried itself in the ground during WW2.
She doesn’t think it has ever been excavated or the ground built on.
Who should she contact?
Hi John, permission would need to be sought from the Ministry of Defence. Please see these documents which will provide some guidance. If there is still a chance that there is ordnance on the wreck or human remains, then permission may not be forthcoming. The Protection of Military Remains Act makes it an offence to unearth such remains without permission. However, with the landowner’s consent, there is nothing to stop you doing a metal detector sweep across the area; if the wreck is there then it should show up without having to do any digging.
Looking for any info on a German bomber that crash landed in the village of shocklach approx 10 miles south of Chester my father inlaw believes it to be a heinkel ‘ it saddled church lane one local took the fuel from it and also a machine gun no mention of Crew ! Location also approx 35 miles from Liverpool !

I am looking for information about a Spitfire which crashed on a practice flight into a hill/mountain, Moel Cwnghordy, South Wales on the 29th of September 1942. It was flying out of Fairwood Common airfield, Swansea. The pilot was Norman Hugh Mackay. He was American and attached to 421 squadron R.C.A.F. would there be a map reference for the impact point?
