Warrant Officer Ernest Israel Glass RCAF, Pilot of Wellington BK387

‹ Return to

On the memorial, W.O Glass has the rank of Flight Sergeant. The Tewitt Lane Memorial page states that the RAF had promoted him shortly before his death, and to save on the widow’s pension, cancelled his promotion after the crash. This decision was later overturned "after a long battle."

From Moosmin, Saskatchewan, he was 27 years old. Pictured above with his nephew Max. W/O Glass’ widow Corrine never remarried and died in 1977.

A wonderful photo. I love looking through the tin box of old photos that my mum has – such a fab way to spend some time.

How snidey they would try to save money in that way. I’m glad the decision was challenged successfully, an honour to the brave and fallen hero
