Pilot Mr A R Hiscox was killed when his light aircraft crashed on Bowfell on November 29th 1987 in low cloud.
Although this is more recent than some, the wreckage looks surprisingly ‘fresh’. It could be the materials used of course.

Oh , its not an effect , it really is steep , very steep , I just never noticed that much whilst there , I was preoccupied with the wreck .:-)

Hello ‘Ian’. I think I may have ‘posted’ on under wrong name. My friends uncle was the pilot. Ha has expressed a wish to visit the site and pay his respects. Could you let me have a 6 or 8 fig. grid ref? Or failing that any directional info. you can supply.

Hello, My name is Jerry Pearson (actually Jeremy Pearson) and I was on Bowfell when the crash happened. A most odd day for many reasons. As I recall we were in snow and the cloud was very low – you couldn’t see more than about 20 metres. I remember thinking hearing the engines of the plane and then the crash, which was definitely more of a thud than an explosion, and then nothing for a while until we smelt a strong burning smell on the wind – not fuel, but a putrid smell like burning plastic. We met two other walkers who were on their way down and briefly discussed it with them. If anyone wants to know any more then let me know.
